Ryan Smith, ACC

Founder & Lead Coach

Unearth Coaching

Hi, I’m Ryan!

I am passionate about helping people reach their full potential and uncovering innovative solutions to their problems. This was my vision behind Unearth Coaching:

That every leader and team has the potential to succeed with the right tools and perspective. The problem is that we sometimes get in our own way.

Growing up I was someone who loved learning and was hungry to draw from whoever I could. This interest led me to meet and work with many interesting and influential people over the years. In building these connections, I learned that people experience their most profound growth through relationships.  From that point on I realized I wanted to bring this revelation into the workplace.

As a leadership and performance coach, I help organizations learn to do relationships well because that is the ultimate driver of growth and high performance. When leaders truly lead, and teams work really well together, it empowers them to devote all their energy to their craft rather than wasting it on things like politics, unproductive conflict, and miscommunication.

Every person needs others to help them become their best self. I want to be part of your journey as a leader by helping you:

Uncover your full leadership potential, and in turn teach you to do that for others.

You and your team have more potential than you think. Let’s unearth that together!

Ryan helps high performers emerge as confident, capable leaders.

He works with the people organizations can't afford to lose: technical experts, senior individual contributors, and newly promoted managers who were exceptional in their last role and are now being asked to lead others. It's one of the hardest transitions in any business. The skills that earned the promotion rarely translate into leadership, and when they don't, the cost compounds quickly: miscommunication, unproductive conflict, disengaged teams, and the slow departure of the very talent the organization invested in.

Ryan partners with these leaders, and the executives who invest in them, to build the self-awareness, communication, and people skills that distinguish a strong performer from a leader others want to follow. His clients leave with a clearer sense of who they are as a leader, the skills to handle difficult conversations, and the confidence to lead without second-guessing every decision.

Ryan is the founder of Unearth Coaching Inc. and the creator of The 5 Thresholds of Leadership, a proprietary framework that guides emerging leaders through the five critical shifts from strong performer to capable leader. He is an ICF Associate Certified Coach (ACC) and a certified Everything DiSC trainer, with a Bachelor of Business from Trent University and a Leadership & Performance Coaching certification from Canada Coach Academy. He is also an engaging speaker and workshop facilitator.

Born and raised in Peterborough, Ontario, Ryan still calls it home and lives there with his wife. Outside of coaching, you'll usually find him on a basketball court, playing his guitar, or grooming a beard he takes a little too seriously.

Biography:

My Approach: It Starts with Leadership

While leadership has always been a central topic in organizational circles, it is often hard for us to define. We like to keep it simple by dividing it into 3 distinct spheres. Using these spheres, we assess a leader’s greatest areas of need and then build out a development plan to address them. These spheres inform the kinds of topics we could work on with you and your organization.

Oneself

Here we work on your level of self-awareness and efficacy. These skills could include goal-setting, time management, and resiliency.

One to One

Here we help you build a toolbox for powerful conversations by focusing on communication, conflict resolution, delegation and mentoring.

One to Many

This is where you will learn to rally and mobilize your team using skills like vision casting, public speaking, gaining buy-in and alignment.
